Integrating Coupons into Mi Página to drive visibility and sales

Mercado Libre

UX/UI | Product design

Context

Within Mercado Libre, Coupons already existed as a standalone feature used across different sections of the platform. However, sellers who managed their storefronts through Mi Página had no easy way to access or showcase them directly in their storefronts.

To address this, I led the integration of Coupons into Mi Página, enabling sellers to both access their active coupons within the site builder and display them on their storefront for buyers to easily discover and use.

This integration unified the seller experience but also strengthened the connection between promotion management and store visibility, allowing sellers to convert followers into active buyers.

Main challenge

The key challenge was to adapt Coupons, a complex, pre-existing product, into a simplified, consistent experience within Mi Página, without duplicating functionality or creating conflicts with the standalone Coupons section.

Additionally, we needed to restructure the storefront layout to prioritize coupons visually. Data showed that coupons generate up to 5× more sales than other types of promotions, so it was essential to give them higher visibility while maintaining balance with other marketing components.

My contribution

I was responsible for designing the end-to-end experience of integrating Coupons into Mi Página, from early alignment with the Coupons team to the final design within the builder and storefront.

I defined how sellers could access and manage coupons directly within the site builder, creating a cohesive entry point aligned with the rest of Mi Página’s components. I also redesigned the storefront layout to highlight coupons effectively, ensuring visibility and engagement.

Throughout the process, I collaborated closely with product managers, the Coupons design team, and the Mi Página development squad to ensure technical feasibility and visual consistency.

Process

The design process began with learning from the Coupons team to fully understand how the feature worked for both sellers and buyers. I participated in several syncs with product and design counterparts to align on technical constraints, eligibility rules, and display logic.

Once I had a solid understanding of the ecosystem, I designed an entry point from the Mi Página site builder, ensuring consistency with existing components and the established Coupons design system. The goal was to offer a simplified management experience, where sellers could review active and program coupons, while still accessing the full Coupons section for advanced actions like creation or budgeting.

In parallel, I reworked the storefront layout to integrate coupons seamlessly into each store’s home view. This involved collaborating with the product and design leads to define new hierarchies and visual priorities, ensuring that coupons appeared above other types of promotions, given their high conversion impact.

The final solution was implemented across both web and mobile, maintaining consistency in information architecture and visual hierarchy across devices.

Outcome

The integration of Coupons into Mi Página unified the seller experience across promotional tools and storefront management. Sellers could now access their active and program coupons directly within the builder and see them automatically displayed in their stores for new and existing followers.

This enhancement improved visibility and conversion, reinforcing Mi Página’s role as the central hub for sellers’ marketing.

Additionally, by placing coupons at the top of the storefront hierarchy, we aligned with data-driven priorities, supporting sellers in increasing their sales potential by up to 5× compared to other promotions.

Learnings

This project strengthened my understanding of how integrating existing features into new contexts requires deep ecosystem knowledge and collaboration across teams.

Balancing usability, consistency, and business priorities was key to achieving a seamless integration.

Finally, aligning the technical and visual layers between two product areas: Mi Página and Coupons, emphasized the importance of design systems as bridges between experieces.
